As Hannah Dace pleases…

As Hannah Dace pleases…

We got to know photographer, Hannah a little better as she spent a perfect autumnal day in London.

When photographer, Hannah isn’t getting the perfect shot you’ll often find her on the back of a motorbike road tripping through a number of idyllic locations. So who better to talk to about planning trips and packing light?

Do you have a travel uniform?

Comfort is key: breathable materials are a must, although I always make sure to take layers - I find planes are always freezing cold!

What's the one (unexpected) thing that always makes it into your bag, no matter where you're going?

I’m notorious for getting hangry, so always pack snacks.

Do you plan your trips or go-with-the flow when you land?

My saved lists on Google Maps are extensive, and I’ll usually look on apps like Amigo ahead of visiting somewhere new so I know I have some great recommendations to hit but also want to be able to be able to be flexible depending on weather and mood. One of my favourite plans to make is going out for a walk and a coffee the first morning in a new place – it’s such a great way to nosy around neighbourhoods and settle into a trip.

Over or under packer?

Over because I always want options, but with the caveat that my partner and I travel a lot by motorbike, where that isn’t an option! It usually takes me a couple of goes to fit everything in our panniers.

Where's next on your list of places to go? it must be long!

So many places, but I'm currently planning my honeymoon, which is two weeks in Namibia and Mozambique.

What Derek Rose pieces did you pack for this trip and why?

It was September in London, so I wanted to be ready for any kind of weather! The Sicily linen trousers are perfect for late summer in the city, and I threw in the Astrid cashmere sweater (which is buttery soft heaven) as a layer. I also love the Brindisi silk slip for wearing outside the house as well as at home.

You're a photographer. Where do you go to find inspiration?

Outside! New destinations and experiences are so crucial to keeping your eye fresh. Cosmos is also a great tool for inspiration, especially for new perspectives on use of colour and light.

At Derek Rose, we believe in living as you please. What does that look like for you?

It might sound small, but I’ve been really trying to focus on slowing my pace this year. It’s so easy to get caught up in London bustle and working life, and not take a second to pause. So I’m trying to move away from that pressure to constantly be busy or productive, and also trying to make less plans but give more time and energy to the things I am doing. It doesn’t come super naturally to me, but I’m working on it!
